FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How does this turnkey quoting system work?
We have focused on the Bill of Materials as the key element in making a rapid delivery of circuitboard assemblies. Our application makes API calls to six component distributors to locate parts that are available and then selects the lowest price all done in real time. That said, it is looking for literal/exact matches to the BOM specification. The impact of this is a need for clarification regarding "inexact matches". Our application will prompt you to make the necessary changes to your Bill of Materials to solve any issues. It will make multiple online searches as you develop possible supply alternatives. The end result is a Scrubbed and costed BOM showing any corrections needed to guarantee component availability. Then with a few more inputs we can finalize assembly and board costs towards the delivery of finished assemblies. If you register on our site we will provide you the Scrubbed BOM.

  • Can the Bill of Materials have alternates?
Yes, our application will accept up to 3 different manufacturer part numbers as well as 3 distributor part numbers. These alternates can be in your excel spreadsheet in either columns or rows. If you don‘t have the manufacturer listed, the system will default to using only the distributor which will limit the search.
  • What is the best way to structure the Bill of Materials?

A Bill of Materials (BOM) should use column headers, may not contain extra lines, and should include all required columns. An example is below. Please be very careful with SMT connector Manufacturer Part Numbers, as they need to indicate Tape and Reel packaging (with pick up points). Please contact customerservice@adcoproto.com with any questions.

  • Is there a minimum order size?
Yes, the component portion of the quotation must equal at least $500.00. If your BOM cost is under $500.00, the site will notify you, and you can decide to proceed knowing you will be charged $500.00 for material or restart the project with a higher quantity of assemblies.
  • How quickly can you deliver my prototypes?
ADCOproto offers a 5,10, or 15 day assembly time from receipt of all parts. This is the time of the actual assembly in working days. We also need 7 working days to gather the parts before production starts.
  • What specific assembly services are available from ADCOproto?
We have three modern high speed surface mount assembly lines and can manufacture either leaded or unleaded assemblies. Our equipment will place 0201's and micro BGA's and is augmented by extensive selective solder capabilities for through-hole devices.
  • How can I be certain of getting a product that meets my quality requirements?
All PCBA’s and applicable materials are handled and manufactured in an ANSI ESD S20 20 compliant facility. An IPC-A-610/J-STD certified trainer provides in-house training and certification to ADCO’s manufacturing workforce. Manufacturing workmanship is to IPC-A-610 Class II, with final visual inspection and standard commercial packaging practices. With over 40 years in the electronic manufacturing service business, we guarantee our workmanship.
  • How do you handle Assembly notes on the Assembly Drawing?
ADCOproto is focused on quick-turn, prototype designs. Therefore, design reviews, special process, tooling/processing development, or review of any documents for notes or critical characteristics are not supplied through the website unless set up prior to the build through contacting customerservice@adcoproto.com. All these services and more are available through ADCO Circuits directly but will have an impact on quick turn delivery.
  • Do you accept consignment orders?
All orders must meet a minimum component material value of $500.00. Customers can supply up to 10 line-items on the BOM free of charge. Any additional line item that is marked customer supplied will cost an additional $20 per item.
  • What files do I need to provide for the processing of my order?
    • BOM in excel with desc., mfgr., mfgr part number, and reference designators
    • Pick and Place file / Centroid file
    • Gerber files & Fab dwg. (if we supply PWB's)
    • Working Gerber files (if you supply PWB's)
    • Assembly dwg.
  • How can I supply my own parts?

    For Customer Supplied Components:

    • Surface Mount Components to be supplied in Trays or on Tape & Reel (T&R).
    • Component strips must be in continuous length and be 4 inches beyond the quantity required.
    • For components with a dollar value less than $5, we require 10% extra parts. For components with a dollar value greater than $5, we require 5 (qty) extra parts.
    • For components not adhering to above, ADCO can offer T&R service for $110.00 per part number and added lead-time.
    • BGA's must be provided in a Matrix Tray.
    • Customer to supply packing list with all shipped components that lists Manufacturing Part Number (MPN), Qty shipped. Labels on components must match packing list and include (MPN).
    • If there is an inadequate supply of components, assemblies to be processed until components run out.
    • Additional Charges for the following: Manual line placements are $10 per value and $2.10 per part. Cut tape per value is $3. Cut tape per placement is $.50.
